Top 10 Jason Statham Movies

Top 10 lists will be a list of 10 movies that will be published once a week and will either have to do with a movie coming out that week or just what I want to do at the time.

In honor of the bizarre reboot of the not even all that good to begin with Transporter series coming out this weekend, I’ve decided to look at the best movies of the man behind the original trilogy, Jason Statham.  He is one of the few action heroes of today’s generation in line with those of the 80’s and 90’s such as Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Norris, and Van Damme.  He sticks almost exclusively to action movies and is always believable in the role.  Even though many of his movies aren’t fantastic, he is always a bright spot and fun to watch.

10. The Transporter

– It’s a great role for Statham and, despite not being great, it has some really entertaining action scenes. It also (somehow) spawned 2 sequels, a TV series, and now a reboot.

9. Cellular

– Lots of people have a problem with this movie and I don’t see it.  Sure, you have to suspend a lot of disbelief.  But it’s a fun thriller and sees Statham as something different- the bad guy.

8. Safe

– It really is like a more violent and more entertaining Transporter actually.

7. Homefront

– Yeah, it’s full of bad characters and clichés.  But I’m a sucker for any sort of “father is just doing whatever it takes to protect his family” plot.  It’s a simple story to tell and it’s told here well.  I enjoyed this one.

6. Blitz

– This is a very underrated serial killer film.  It builds brilliant tension throughout and has some unexpected twists.  It’s definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of “catch the serial killer” movies.

5. Death Race

– Ok, so it isn’t the most believable story in the world but how much more awesome can it get than a deadly NASCAR race with sweet cars, guns, and explosives? Turn your brain off and be entertained.

4. The Bank Job

– Another that many probably haven’t seen.  It’s a very well executed bank robbery movie.  It starts off a little slow but once it get’s going, it takes some unexpected turns.

3. Furious 7

– I’m sure I’ll get some grief over the top 3 movies on my list but I don’t care it’s just my opinion.  I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.  It isn’t believable but its solid action fun and Statham is great as the villain.  The sendoff for Paul Walker is perfect.

2. The Expendables 2

– The best of the 3 Expendables movies, this is the one that got this idea right.  It has all your favorite action stars, a perfect tone, and great action.  Statham and Stallone have some really good chemistry and I loved some of their back and forth.  Plus, the Statham vs. Scott Adkins fight at the end is just as good, if not better, than the Stallone vs. Van Damme fight.

1. The Italian Job

– I always forget how much I enjoy this movie until I watch it.  It’s a great heist movie with the perfect blend of action and humor.  Statham, despite having more of a supporting role, steals pretty much any scene he is in.

Honorable Mentions: Crank, War, The Mechanic

Let me know what your favorite Statham movies are in the comments.
