Suicide Squad Trailer Review and Cloverfield Sequel Thoughts

Two very intriguing trailers have been released over the past week or so.  The first one I’ll talk about is Suicide Squad, followed by some brief thoughts on 10 Cloverfield Lane, some sort of sequel, spin off, reboot thing of Cloverfield.

Suicide Squad

This movie looks absolutely, 100% insane.  Beyond that though, this is a great trailer.  I didn’t even know it was possible these days, but they pulled it off.  It interested me further in the movie without giving away very much at all.  It gave us tastes of all the characters and the tone of the movie, but I don’t have the slightest idea what the movie is about or who the antagonist is or any of that.  And I don’t want to.  I’m sold on this movie despite the fact I never thought I would be.  All of the performances look like they will be pretty solid, even Jai Courtney who isn’t really good in anything.  Jared Leto’s Joker looks interesting if nothing else. The movie just looks like crazy, entertaining fun.  I can’t wait to see it this summer.  I know nothing about the comic book roots or anything like that, but as a movie it looks like it might be pretty good based on this trailer. Check it out below if you have yet to see it or want to watch it again.

10 Cloverfield Lane

This trailer came as a complete surprise when I saw it attached to 13 Hours.  It is in some way related to Cloverfield, the 2008 monster movie.  I’ve heard that it could be anything from a direct sequel to just being a spin off and existing in the same world.  While I am intrigued based on the trailer (which again doesn’t give much of anything away), I can’t help but wonder if this is even a necessary sequel.  Is there that big of a fan base for Cloverfield? I’ve seen it once or twice and liked it for what it was but wasn’t ever begging for a sequel.  Who knows, maybe some people were. Regardless, the trailer and the fact that J.J. Abrams is producing has me interested.  Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think of that and the Suicide Squad trailer in the comments.
