That was my first thought when reading the news that Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg would be returning for the fifth Indiana Jones movie, due to come out in 2019. I mean, didn’t we learn our lesson last time? Weren’t the aliens, CGI monkeys, surviving the nuke, and Shia LaBeouf enough to kill this franchise before it turns into a joke? I think most people would agree that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a pretty bad movie. In fact, I don’t know that I’ve ever met someone who actually likes it. Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of my favorite movies of all time. Temple of Doom is an alright movie. Last Crusade is another really good one. So, let’s leave it at that. Let’s not take this any farther.
Honestly, if they were going to make another Indy movie, I preferred the reboot with Chris Pratt that was briefly discussed. He would be perfect for this role and I think I would have enjoyed some form or an Indiana Jones movie with him in it, even if it involved some “passing of the torch” from Ford to him. That may still be possible, although from what I’ve heard it isn’t likely.
While I’ll always have faith in Spielberg and Ford, I sat through Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and have never bothered to revisit it. It’s that bad. So I’d rather them leave an amazing franchise alone, before it gets any worse.
