Top 10 Movie Villains

Top 10 lists are back in a big way with the greatest movie villains of all time.  This is obviously due to the release of Suicide Squad this weekend, a team-up of supervillains.  The way it is being reviewed, the movie may have needed one or two of these guys to help out.

10. Voldemort- The Harry Potter Series

– It was a battle of witches vs. wizards here with Voldemort just barely taking the spot over the Wicked Witch of the West (Wizard of Oz).

9. The Terminator- The Terminator

– In a role perfect for him, Arnold Schwarzenegger turns this character into a truly iconic villain.

8. John Doe- Seven

– Though he has little screen time, Kevin Spacey embraces the role of the psychopathic killer. It’s an excellent villain in an excellent movie.

7. Hans Landa- Inglorious Basterds

– Christoph Waltz’s charm and charisma make this villain hard to hate, as bad of a guy as he is.

6. Freddie Krueger- The Nightmare on Elm Street Series

– It was tough to decide between him, Jason, and Michael Myers.  Freddie gets it because I think overall he is a slightly more menacing, yet more fun villain.

5. The Alien- The Alien Series

– Probably the most horrifying villain on this list in terms of pure looks, but is also for just terrifying in general.

4. Hans Gruber- Die Hard

– Alan Rickman’s best role is as the suave, charismatic terrorist and it’s so fun to watch.

3. Hannibal Lecter- Silence of the Lambs

– One of the creepiest villains of all time, despite having less time on screen than it would take to eat someone’s liver with fava beans and a nice chianti.

2. The Joker- The Dark Knight

– So hard not to put this at number one. It’s the best performance of all time. And yes, I take Heath Ledger’s version of Jack Nicholson’s.

1. Darth Vader- Star Wars Original Trilogy

– He gets this spot for not only being an incredible villain, but for also being one of the most iconic.  Even those misguided people who have never seen Star Wars know who Darth Vader is.  He transcends the movies, making him the best villain of all time.

Honorable Mentions: The Shark (Jaws), Hal 9000 (2001: A Space Odyssey), The Predator (Predator)

Who are your favorite villains? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I don’t know if it really counts as a “villain,” but I liked Percy Wetmore from The Green Mile..
John Doe is another good one!

Nice list, but I would have put Norman Bates on there.

Definitely won’t say you’re wrong, I personally am just not the biggest Psycho fan. Good choice though
