Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017

Well after looking back at the best and the worst of 2016, it’s time to look ahead at the movies I am most anticipating in 2017. I must note that I’m notoriously bad at this apparently since only 4 of the movies on last year’s list made my top 10 list at the end of the year. 3 of them actually made the top 10 worst list.  Here’s to better luck this year. Most of these are blockbusters due to the fact those are the movies we tend to know about further in advance. Spoiler alert: Fifty Shades of whatever comes next in that awful series is not anywhere on here.

10. Justice League

– After Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman, no DC movie should make this list.  However, this does because it has to be good for their cinematic universe to continue.

9. John Wick Chapter 2

– The first John Wick movie is one of the best action movies made recently. It’s hard not to look forward to the sequel.

8. Alien: Covenant

– I’m a big fan of Alien. Not so much of Prometheus. So the fact that this sequel to the prequel looks much more like Alien gets this on the list.

7. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

– The first movie was a ton of fun and based on the trailer this one looks like more of the same.

6. Dunkirk

– Christopher Nolan. World War 2. I’m in.

5. Kong: Skull Island

– Hard not to be excited based on the cast and the trailer.

4. Logan

– The only way to not get completely bored of these superhero movies is to keep making them different in style and tone. Logan looks to follow that in Hugh Jackman’s last turn as Wolverine.

3. Patriot’s Day

– The only reason I’m a little hesitant is the fact that it seems a little too soon after the tragic real life event to be making a movie.  But the early reviews and the reteaming of Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg gives me faith.

2. War for the Planet of the Apes

– Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of the best movies in the last decade. That’s tough to follow but War looks like it’s going to give it its best shot.

1. Star Wars Episode VIII

– No surprise here. You can probably expect a Star Wars movie to top these lists until they stop making them. I can’t wait to see where this franchise goes and hopefully get some answers to questions raised in The Force Awakens.

Honorable Mentions: Wonder Woman, The Mummy, Split

Let me know what you are looking forward to this year in the comments.
