Besides an excellent football game, there were many other takeaways from this year’s Super Bowl, namely all the trailers we got during commercial breaks. Oh and that Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr. Dirty Dancing commercial which was pure gold… Anyway, some of the trailers we got were fantastic, while others were not so much. Here are the winners and losers, with all the trailers attached.
All of us, because the Patriots lost the game.
Skyscraper- This one really came out of nowhere. I had barely even heard of the movie before last night, much less that it seems like it is gonna be The Rock’s Die Hard. It looks great and I can’t wait to see it. Probably my favorite trailer of the night.
Mission Impossible: Fallout- This franchise keeps on rolling. After the fantastic last 2 installments, this one looks like it will be more of the same. And there is further confirmation that Tom Cruise is in fact still crazy doing these stunts. The bar keeps getting raised.
A Quiet Place- I can’t wait for this movie. This short trailer gives us just a touch more than the previous trailer, but has me even more excited.
The Cloverfield Paradox- Just a fantastic marketing strategy. Another movie in the Cloverfield universe, this time with an announcement that it was going to be released on Netflix when the game was over. I haven’t watched it yet, but the reviews aren’t great. However, it makes the winners list for this brilliant bit of marketing.
Solo: A Star Wars Story- This teaser for the teaser that we got last night is actually really good. There are some great visuals and Star Wars moments. We never really get to see much of Alden Ehrenreich or hear him speak more than a line off camera. Turns out, that’s why this trailer is good.
Solo: A Star Wars Story- While we got the quick teaser last night, this trailer was released this morning. This one features more of Alden Ehrenreich in character as Han Solo and I’ll tell you I’m not on board with it in the slightest. I don’t buy him for a second as the iconic smuggler. That character is my favorite of the Star Wars saga and no part of this trailer feels like they are doing him justice. A lot of people liked this trailer but I’m not one of them. Can this movie please just not come out?
Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom- So I guess not only are dinosaurs ending up on the mainland (because that worked so well in the Lost World right?) but they also created ANOTHER new dinosaur? While I like Jurassic World for what it is, there’s no doubt it didn’t have the magic of the original. This looks like we are moving even farther away from it.
Avengers Infinity War- Besides a couple new scenes, this trailer doesn’t do much. I feel like it serves as more of a reminder for the non- hard core fans that this is coming out than anything else.
Red Sparrow- Are we sure this isn’t a Black Widow origin story?
Let me know which ones were your favorites in the comments.
