Who Should Take Over As Batman?

With the recent news that the new Matt Reeves directed Batman movie is slated to come out June 25, 2021, we also learned that Ben Affleck will almost definitely not be returning to play the titular character. We are now left to speculate who might take over the role, rumored to go to a younger actor. I’m not sure the actors on our wish-list qualify as “young” but they are all younger than Affleck, so that has to count for something. Here are some of our picks for the new Batman. Be sure to comment below with who you think would be good in the role.

Jon Bernthal

With his turn as Frank Castle most likely coming to an end soon with the expected cancellation of Netflix’s The Punisher, could Bernthal turn in the Punisher skull for the cape and cowl? He would bring an intensity and physicality to the role without a doubt. The biggest hangup for me, besides him already playing a Marvel vigilante, is it is hard to see him in the Bruce Wayne role. His intensity level might be a little too high for the more subtle and nuanced parts of the role. Still, it would be an interesting take and I would be on board in seeing it.

Oscar Isaac

With Star Wars: Episode IX finishing filming soon, Isaac seems to have a hole in his future schedule. Would it be possible for him to move from one huge franchise to another big name role? I would be happy to see it. He’s a fantastic actor who would bring some charm to the role. He’s also able to play a role with some subtle intensity, as evidenced by his character in Ex Machina. I think he would be an excellent Batman, and a good Bruce Wayne.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Gyllenhaal is another actor already playing a part in a Marvel movie as the villain Mysterio in the upcoming Spiderman: Far From Home, which could hinder any possibility of him playing the Caped Crusader. However, he remains one of my favorite actors working today and has shown his range time and time again. We know from Southpaw he can get in some serious shape. I think he would be able to play the dual part of Batman and Bruce Wayne better than anyone else I can think of.

Miles Teller

Teller is the youngest actor on this list. He would be one of the best choices out there if they wanted to go younger than any of the other options. He has the looks and personality to play Bruce Wayne, and while he would have to bulk up to be a believable Batman, his character in Whiplash shows he can bring some intensity to a role.

Ryan Gosling

If I remember correctly, I remember Gosling’s name being tossed around for the role before Affleck was hired, so I can’t help but throw him on the list. He might make the best Bruce Wayne on the list, but I’m having a hard time seeing him as Batman. I’ve never seen him bring as much intensity and physicality to a role as he would need for this one. This is the only one on the list I would be a little unsure of going in if I heard he was hired.

John Krasinski

If you told me 5 years ago that Jim Halpert would make a good Batman, I would have laughed in your face. However, he’s done a great job growing out of that role. His personality and subtle, dry sense of humor would be perfect for both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Not to mention the dude is ripped now and would easily be able to pull off Batman. Call me crazy, but I would like this pick a lot.

Those are some of our picks for a new Batman. Which of these do you love? which do you hate? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
