The second I heard Martin Scorcese was directing Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci in a gangster flick about Jimmy Hoffa for Netflix, I was all in. The fact that it was going to be an epic that spans several decades and features some of the best de-aging technology we’ve seen only added to that. We got to see all of those things in action today in the first trailer. Check it out:
The first time I watched it, I didn’t love the trailer. I felt like it just showcased the actors and didn’t give us anything else. The second time I watched it, I got a lot more out of it. It really transports you back to post-war America. The production design looks incredible and so does the de-aging, particularly on De Niro. We also got the first official plot synopsis from Netflix:
“Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th Century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.”
The Irishman hits Netflix later this year.
