There were a ton of mediocre blockbusters that came out in 2019, but a lot of smaller films that ended up being great. Hopefully, 2020 can bring out the best in both categories. Here are the 10 I’m looking forward to the most.
10. Bad Boys for Life
I actually get to see this later on tonight (at the time of this writing) and I can’t wait. I would consider the previous two movies guilty pleasures, but they are both incredibly entertaining buddy cop movies. This one is getting good reviews out of the gate, which only amps up my anticipation.
9. Godzilla vs. Kong
Despite the Monsterverse movies ranging from mediocre to disappointing so far, I’m still holding out hope they don’t let us down again with this one. We can only hope they’ve learned their lesson and focus on the monsters, rather than poorly developed human characters.
8. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
While the offshoot movies in the Conjuring Universe have been mostly awful, the two main movies have been great, with the first making it into my Top 10 Films of the Decade. I’m hoping that bodes well for this third installment.
7. A Quiet Place Part II
This really should be higher, but the fact that the first film is almost perfect on its own worries me about this sequel. I’m not sure which the direction they are going to take it, but I have a bad feeling it can only go down in quality.
6. The Eternals
I made the mistake of missing Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters because it looked like a weird, space bound fantasy movie. It didn’t look quite my speed. I won’t make that mistake with this movie with it giving off similar vibes. The MCU rarely lets me down.
I only know the basic premise behind this movie, which is Tom Hanks in an Allied naval fleet being pursued by German U-Boats during World War II. That’s all I need, and I’m sure that’s all you need to be in on this one.
I’m not familiar with the source material or the original movie, but Denis Villeneuve and the all star cast they have assembled are enough for me.
3. No Time To Die
Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond and I’ll be sad to see him go after this movie. I’m hoping they send him out on a high note. The first trailer definitely looks promising.
The trailer for this movie is fascinating. I can’t wait to see where this story goes. Nolan doesn’t have a bad movie on his record, so his name is enough to get me in a theater.
1. Top Gun: Maverick
No matter what else is on this list, I can’t put anything else in this spot. This sequel has been talked about pretty much my whole life, and we are finally getting it. The trailer gave me chills, and I’ll be there opening night for sure.
Leave a comment and let me know what movies you are looking forward to this year!
