Well, another year is in the books. So before 2017 gets into full swing, lets look back at the best movies of 2016, in my opinion of course. Before we get started, make sure to check out this list’s opposite, the Top 10 Worst Movies of 2016.  Keep in mind, as always with lists like this, my original review and rating is only part of what goes into where each movie places.  The movie’s overall quality, entertainment value, how it holds up after more thought, its impact on me, and its rewatchability are all factors. I also haven’t seen every movie that came out, unfortunately. But you can check out my reviews for each movie I did see on this list by clicking on the title. Before we got to the Top 10, here are some honorable mentions that just missed the list:

After a week off, Top 10 lists return with the best movies of one of my favorite actors, Sam Jackson. This isn’t totally random; it is because of his role in the Tarzan movie that came out last week, which is itself kind of random.  This was actually a tougher list than I expected it to be and actually has a surprise or two in it.

I know I’m late on this compared to everyone else and you’re all dying to know my thoughts, but I’ve been dealing with college graduation and haven’t had the time to see it until yesterday.  Will my review be worth the wait? Probably not, but here it goes anyway.

Civil War is the third entry in the Avengers series Captain America series as the team of heroes we’ve grown to (mostly) love falls apart after the countries of the world institute measures that would give them oversight over the superheroes.  One side, lead by Tony Stark’s Ironman, agrees with this and signs on, while the other side, lead by Captain America, disagrees and begins operating “outside the law”.  Conflict ensues and we have our movie.

Man, even my Top 10 lists are catching superhero fatigue. Having already done Top 10 Superhero Movies, Top 10 Movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Top 5 Batman and Superman Movies, I’m running out of topics for these lists.  So I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel and looking at the Top 10 Superheroes in movies (and a little Netflix).  The main things I looked at when creating the list were the quality of movies they are featured in and how interesting/enjoyable I find the character.

Alright, now I’m a little more excited for this movie.  The first trailer they released really just confused me more than anything and didn’t really pump me up for it.  This one is a little more clear. Who exactly is on each side is shown and the reason for the fight is defined a little better, although I’m still a little unsure about that.  I don’t understand how what seems like a little difference of opinion about whether the superheroes should be controlled a little bit turns into a fight where they are trying to kill each other.  It seems like a bit of an overreaction and a stretch, but I’ll save too much talk about that until I see the movie.

Now that we have finished looking back at 2015, it’s time to look ahead to 2016.  Looking at the big name titles coming out next year, I see a lot of sequels.  For better or worse, this list reflects that.  Don’t hate the player, hate the game.  I can’t help that they are making sequels that excite me.  Obviously, we don’t know about all the movies coming out next year yet.  For example, we usually don’t learn about movies that are awards contenders until shortly before their releases next fall/winter.  Though they were in limited release in 2015, The Revenant and The Hateful 8 have yet to be released where I live, so they qualify for this list.  Do they make the list? Keep reading to find out.
