Well after looking back at the best and the worst of 2016, it’s time to look ahead at the movies I am most anticipating in 2017. I must note that I’m notoriously bad at this apparently since only 4 of the movies on last year’s list made my top 10 list at the end of the year. 3 of them actually made the top 10 worst list.  Here’s to better luck this year. Most of these are blockbusters due to the fact those are the movies we tend to know about further in advance. Spoiler alert: Fifty Shades of whatever comes next in that awful series is not anywhere on here.

After The Force Awakens and this, they could make Star Wars movies every year for the rest of my life and I’ll be in the theater opening weekend for all of them.

For those that don’t know, Rogue One is the first standalone, non-trilogy Star Wars movie. This is very important to know going in. This is NOT Episode 8. So if you go in expecting to see the further adventures of Rey, Finn, and the Skywalkers, you’ll be disappointed.  However you will not be disappointed if you go in expecting a great depiction of how the plans to the Death Star were acquired prior to the original Star Wars movie.

Now that we have finished looking back at 2015, it’s time to look ahead to 2016.  Looking at the big name titles coming out next year, I see a lot of sequels.  For better or worse, this list reflects that.  Don’t hate the player, hate the game.  I can’t help that they are making sequels that excite me.  Obviously, we don’t know about all the movies coming out next year yet.  For example, we usually don’t learn about movies that are awards contenders until shortly before their releases next fall/winter.  Though they were in limited release in 2015, The Revenant and The Hateful 8 have yet to be released where I live, so they qualify for this list.  Do they make the list? Keep reading to find out.

Believe it or not, whether you’ve seen The Force Awakens or not, whether you even like Star Wars or not, you have all been part of history.  The newest addition to the Star Wars saga shattered pretty much every opening weekend record there is, including the U.S. domestic record.  It posted around 247 million there alone (close to my $250 million prediction).  But this is more than just how much money the movie made or how many records it broke.  Let’s take a step back and look at the impact this movie has made on the entire world.

This review is spoiler-free.

Ladies and gentlemen, a round of applause please for J.J. Abrams.  Star Wars is back, my friends.

I know I’m a little late on this, but I wanted to see it twice to give you the best review possible.  I have to keep it short to avoid spoilers and trust me, you don’t want this movie spoiled for you.  The Force Awakens follows a new generation of characters who, with the help of some of the old characters we know and love, take on the evil First Order, led by Kylo Ren.  Trust me, that’s all you need to know about the plot.  See the movie to find out more.

Surprise! Bonus Top 10 list this week.  People who don’t like Star Wars are probably really tired of hearing about it but I am not apologizing.  I love it so I’m focusing my posts on it this week.  This week’s bonus is this list of my favorite lightsaber duels in the Star Wars movies (with videos).  They really are some of the coolest fights every put on film.  Everything is better with lightsabers. Want proof? Check out this clip (potential Game of Thrones spoiler). It won’t let me embed it so click on the link.  But it shows lightsabers do indeed make everything better.  Anyway let’s get to the actual list here. Fair warning- plenty of spoilers in here.
